The Silence of the Lambs (opening)
The Silence of the Lambs is a film that has has become part of my research because of its Genre; Horror/Thriller. The two main chracters are Anothony Hopkins and Jodie Foster. In this film Clarice Starling is a trainee Police Officer and her task is to find out information about Doctor Hannibal Lector.
Although the stroyline of this film my not be like my film, the thriller genre that it is will be similar to my film. When watching the opening part of this film, you are not able to predict what will happen in the rest of the film, this is how i want my film to appear.

Editing
- A fade to black, this signifies an ending to an episode.
- Disolve, a way of getting from scene to scene.
- Wipe, this editing technique is used for comedy or specialist films.
- Jump cut, a jump cut can reflect a charcher's state of mind.
- Continuity editing, this editing techique can help the viewer to follow a character.
- Graphic match, this is when a object turns into reality, for example; if you are looking at the clock wishing you were in the sun, then being in the sun.
- 180 degree rule, this is wher the camera stays to 180 degrees and does not cross that line.

Mise-En-Scene
It would not make much sense to set a film about the countryside in a busy city. If this is done the film appears to be less realistic than a film that is set in the right location, according to the genre. If a viewer beginnings watching a film that is unrealistic, it is not very likely that they will stayed tuned to watch the film the whole way through because they will see no point. The reason why the viewer will see no point in watching a filmed in a unrealistic location is because when most people watch films, they watch it for escapism. Film escapism is literally when a viewer watches a film simply to escape from their everyday lives.
In television shows, the studios in which they are filmed are not necessarily the same location in where the actually television show is set, this will not make the television show look unrealistic. If the studio that the television show is set up to look like the location that the television show is set in then there many not be any problems. Occasionally to reinforce the location of the television show they film crew may ave to film a couple of scenes on location, the location will actually be the location where the television show is meant to be set. An example of this would be; British Soap; Eastenders, although Eastenders is set in the East End of London the actual location of the studios are in Hertfordshire, the Mise-En-Scene used in this soap to represent London is the sound of the London Underground service in many scenes, there is also the Underground sign post in the actual Square. The location is also made to look realistic with the opening titles of the soap, they are of London.

Film Trailer (Flawless)
This is a film Trailer for the film; Flawless. This film may be similar to my film, the reason for this is because the storyline of this is film is that somebody wants to break into a safe and steal the jewelery from the London Diamond Corporation. My film will not necessarily be set at the London Diamond Corporation but my film may involve some jewelery been stolen.

Film Openings (Scream)
In this opening sequence of Scream, Casey is made to feel vulnerable by the Intruder. The reason why i have analysis the opening sequence of this film is because my film idea is similar; in my film there is going to be a sentimentally valuable item in a house and a break-in will have to bee used to get the item, this will make the current tenants feel vunerable.

The film starts of with Laura Quinn as an old women, then the film goes back in time to when both Mr Hobbs and Laura Quinn were working at the London Diamond Corporation.
The plan of the Film is for both main charcters; Mr Hobbs and Laura Quinn to steal from the London Diamond Corporation. Their plan is interupted when they discover that the London Diamond Corporation has installed CCTV, however, they get round this because Mr Hoobs discovers that the camaras are on a rota basis, this means that the corridor that the safe is on is only on CCTV for sixty seconds every two minutes. Laura Quinn is under the impression that Mr Hoobs will only steal one flask of diamonds (because she think that if only one flasks size goes missing the other members of staff may not notice), in fact he steals all the diamonds in the safe.

How colour is used in films
The colour blue may be used in films to create emotions. Blue is associated to be the colour of sadness and calmness. Blue also has a sense of coldness because blue is the colour of the sky and sea.
The colour red may be used in films to create emotions. Red is associated to be the colour of pain and sadness, the colour red is also the colour of blood. Red also has a sense of aggression and also has a sense of love, a rose is red and associated with love.
The colour green may be used in films to create emotions. Green is associated to be the colour of jealousy, green is also a friendly, nature colour. Green also has a sense of money and richness.
The colour yellow may be used in films to create emotions. Yellow is associated to be the colour of warmth and positiveness. Yellow also has a sense of relaxation and happiness because the colour of the sun is yellow.
The colour white may be used in films to create emotions. White is associated to the colour of simplicity and cleanliness. White also has a sense of purity and heaven, because god is made to be full of purity.
The colour black may be used in films to create emotions. Black is associated to be the colour of control and death. Black also has a sense impurity and mystery, because villains are not pure.
The colours; blue, red green, yellow, white and black are the main colours used in film. These colours are used because they are simple colours and the viewers can relate to them very easily.
Colour used in the fim; Jane Eyre
In the film Jane Eyre the filmakers use dull colours to represent the fact that she has been sent to go and live with an uncharing family. The children who are already part of the established family that Jane has been sent to live with are dressed in the colour of red, this represents the colour of evilness and that is their feelings towards Jane. The colour of the clothing that Jane is dressed in is black, this colour may be to so that the family think she is a villian. Although the mother of the family is dressed in black, she is dressed in black because black is a colour of authority and mothers are usually shown to have authority.

Lighting

This is an example of back lighting.
With back lighting, the main lighting enters the shot through the back of the shot. Usually back lightings create the effects of solhouettes.

With top lighting, the main lighting enters the shot through the top of the shot. Top lighting can also make characters look glamorous.
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDvcFCJHQguv-aJDp2LvXddx1Nf3eTrWVsIBOZKuUhaVSP-O2fGvqgAGoka3jB48IC1tVGIBnNM5oEwK4MhrdvR6mb_HzMThNuCx0AIG3Lt52tMMCreKY0MdMMcPn0tv17hRfrGB3A38A/s320/underlight%5B1%5D.jpg)
With underlighting, the main lighting enters the shot it comes from below the persons face as shown to the left. This type of lighting is mainly used in horror films because it confuses the viewers.

This is an example of low-key lighting.
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhl-Er7LB1L7Uu2si8_PuXuj4gKFhNjwBp-TGlSxa6-Yx6hisQPn5CdS-ET975a0sGOwt1eG6EeCIC_TsV9tTlUcA-VMxIj3he4Sn3Vc7ysVUfJ2lVUhZIyefzOG1O9v43x5FGnhpe-N0/s320/100_0340%5B1%5D.jpg)
This is an example of high-key lighting.
There is is clear difference from high-key lighting to low-key lighting, this is clearly identified by the images show above. High-key lighting is much brighter than low-key lighting.
Both of these types of lighting could be used in my film. I the type of lighting i am likely to use is low-key lighting, these reason for this is because my film i will make will involve a finding of valuables in a house and the representation of films like this tend to use low-key lighting.
Lighting in the film; Dead Again
The lighting used in part of the film is low-key lighting. The colours are black and white and this suggests that part of the film is a dream. Lighting has been used in this particular exact to show a dramatic affect in the characters. Baker appears in the film to show simplicity, on the other hand mystery is shown through Strauss. The mood in this extract of Dead Again suggests that the criminal is suspicious through the way that the lighting only shows half of the face.
Film Noir
Film Noir is what the French film analysers called films made in the nineteen forties and fifties in America. Most of these films took place during the evening time, this is why the french called this genre of films Film Noir because the English word for Noir is black, black is associated with night times. Most of the films were set in large cities and dark alleyways, they have a general dull feel to them.
